It made no sense because the error checker did not catch anything before the installation. I pasted the log file from were I think the errors started occurring. The attempts did not throw errors on screen but it appears as if the setup is stuck in some loop. Of course, VS comes with visual C++ and small versions of SQL but not the full express edition (well, at least not mine). I have already installed Visual Studio 2012 without a hitch.

The installer unpacks and lands on an option screen, allowing me to upgrade an existing install or install a new instance. I am after Microsoft SQL Server 2012, Express Edition with tools.
I am trying to install Microsoft SQL server 2012 on a Windows 7 PC for development purposes and seem to be misunderstanding something.
